Dr. Marion Louise Kittle Jones died November 30, 2014 at the age of 87. She lived an uncommon life. She was born in southern California, and lived in California until she graduated from medical school in 1954. She met her husband, Dr. Irving Jones MD, in medical school. She taught biology at a Boy Scout camp in New Mexico for a summer, and eventually joined Irving and Dr. Russell Youngberg, MD, in a move to Reading, PA, to open the Reading Rehabilitation Hospital in 1960. She was known to playfully turn up the volume of her pipe organ at the Reading Hampden Heights church to triumphantly signal the end of the service with a good dose of Bach. She would giggle as she pounded out a batch of dough in the making of her famous cinnamon rolls. Rarely sitting still, she picked blueberries in the dawn of the day in her garden, and weeded for hours in surgical precision before collapsing into the cooling water of the family pond on Freemansville Road. She never asked for more than a Hershey bar for Christmas and never lost her temper. She led her family on frequent hikes throughout Pennsylvania and the continental U.S., providing expansion of the scenery with plant genus and specie names. She also provided local bird details. She relished long conversations around the kitchen table. She easily lost track of time playing piano or French horn with friends and family. When entertained, she often laughed until she couldn’t catch her breath. She cried with her patients. She loved her family and her church family deeply. She was generous with both her earthly and spiritual wealth. She is survived by her 3 children, Liz Church, Kathy Lee and Dan Jones and their father, Dr. Irving H. Jones, who resides in Robesonia, PA.
