Lawanna B. Mena, 68, passed away Saturday May 6th, 2017 peacefully in the loving arms of her husband, Ismael Mena.
Born October 11th, 1948 in Jesup, Georgia she was the daughter of the late Leonard and Rosa Lee (Spell) Swails.
Lawanna grew up in Jesup, Georgia as the 5th of 11 children. She graduated from Wayne County High School in 1966. She had a long career in the textile industry founding two different companies. At 64 years old she graduated from McCann School of Business as class Valedictorian.
She was a woman of faith, a minster, and proud wife of the Pastor of the Spanish United Pentecostal Church. She had a burden and passionate love for her congregation.
She was most proud of her five children, Robert Beitz husband of Carol Beitz, Frank Beitz companion of Kim, Irene Yorks wife of Jay Yorks, Mark Beitz husband of Krystal Beitz and Brian Beitz, and her ten grandchildren. She is also survived by one great grandchild, siblings, Brett Swails, Leonard Swails, Robert Swails, Harold Swails, Maxine Blowe, Linda Glidden and beloved sister Rita Kitrell who cared for Lawanna tirelessly in her final journey. There are also numerous nieces and nephews.
She was pre-deceased in death by her sisters, Latrelle Swails, Bonnie Minton and a brother, Perry Swails.
A funeral service will be held in the Spanish United Pentecostal Church, 955 North 10th St., Reading, Wednesday at 10:30 AM. A viewing will be held Tuesday evening at the church from 6 to 8 PM. Burial will follow the funeral service in Chestnut Hill Cemetery, Winfield, PA.
