Seymour M. Bloom, 88, of Reading passed away on September 29th, 2017 at his residence. Born in reading, he was the son of the late Arthur and Florence (Rybak) Bloom. He was a graduate of Reading High School and Rider University where he was the president of his Fraternity, Sigma Lamda Pi. Prior to attending Rider University, he served in the US Army. He was stationed at the Army Intelligence Center at Fort Holabird. Upon his release from active duty in February of 1955, he completed 8 years of service in the Army Reserve. He received the national Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal.
Seymour was the co-owner of Bloom Furniture. After his retirement in 1984, he went on to become the director of the Reading Parking Authority from 1985-1995. He substituted for various school districts until 2006.
Seymour also served as the president of the PA Parking Association and was a member of the Board of Directors at Kesher Zion. He was an avid supporter of the revitalization of Downtown Reading and enjoyed being a longtime member of the DID Organization Holiday Parade Committee.
Seymour was predeceased by his beloved wife, Beverly O. Bloom, and his sister Annette Leifer. He is survived by his two daughters, Shelley Hamsher, wife of Jeffrey Hamsher, and Merryl Eisenberg; his five grandchildren, Samantha Hamsher, Courtney Hamsher, Joshua Hamsher, Brittany Eisenberg, Matthew Eisenberg; and great grandson, Holden Jones.
Services will be held Tuesday at 10 am at Reform Congregation Oheb Shalom, 555 Warwick Drive, Wyomissing. Internment will be in Kesher Zion Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the RHS Alumni Association or the Jewish Federation of Reading.
