Obituary for Laudine M. Stamm (Rager)

Laudine R. Stamm. 86, of Cumru Township, passed December 22nd in the Middletown Home, Middletown, PA.

She was the loving wife of Leon S. Stamm.

Born in Sunbury, PA she was the daughter of Donald Rager Sr. and Helena (Pfleegor) Rager.

Laudine was a graduate of Kutztown State Teacher’s College with a degree in Fine Arts and Elementary Education. She also continued her studies at the University of Pennsylvania. She later was an Elementary Art teacher in the Governor Mifflin School District.

Laudine served faithfully as a member of the former First United Church of Christ, Reading where she enjoyed teaching Sunday School and singing in the choir as a soloist and member.

Whether performing on stage with Berks Grand Opera, singing with the Berkshire Chorale, designing scenery, teaching or just being a mom, Laudine was known for her beautiful smile, generous spirit and creative solutions. The Literacy Council of Reading-Berks named her Volunteer of the Year after several years of dedicated service.

As a member and leader in the Rebekah Lodge, Laudine was also one of the few female members of the Independent Order of Oddfellows and served both organizations in varied roles.

Laudine’s sense of humor, raised eyebrows and comical commentary made her a popular resident of the Middletown Home where she resided for the past 15 months. She will be greatly missed.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, Peter S. Stamm, daughter, Susan L. Blakely, son-in-law, George Blakely; two grandchildren, Aaron and Willem and brothers, Donald Rager Jr. and James Rager.

A funeral service will be held Thursday at 11 AM in Henninger Funeral Home, Inc. 229 N. 5th St. Reading, PA. Friends may call from 10 AM to the time of service at the funeral home. Interment will follow service in Forest Hills Memorial Park.
