Doreen Jane (Stroup) Andrews passed away on Monday, April 11, 2022 at the Reading Hospital Tower Health surrounded by her loving family. She was 88 years old.
Born in Millersburg, Pa. September 8,1933, she was the daughter of Monroe and Dorothy Stroup. She graduated from Wilson High School in 1951. Doreen was a Berks County resident until she moved to Florida in 1983 returning to Reading February, 2019.
Doreen worked at St. Joseph's Hospital in the pharmacy and eventually in the medical records department. She also worked at Boscov's North and then at Sears in Florida until 2014 when she retired at eighty years old. Her strong work ethic was commendable and respected.
She enjoyed gardening, cooking, sewing, shopping, dancing, playing her marimba and spending time with her family. Her kindness and genuine sweetness will be remembered by those whose lives she touched.
Doreen's greatest joy were her daughters, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and long-time loving companion Ed Brittingham, whom she resided with at the Heritage of Green Hills.
She is survived by her loving daughters--Victoria (Nye) Hafetz, wife of Howard Hafetz, Reading; Sherry (Nye) McNabb, Wyomissing; her loving companion of almost twenty years, Ed Brittingham, Heritage of Green Hills; her grandchildren, Erika (Hafetz) Geer, wife of Ellis, Plymouth Meeting; Justin Schaeffer, husband of Erin (Cattermole), Sinking Spring; Cameron Hafetz, Philadelphia, and great grandchildren, Everett Geer and Julian Schaeffer. Her sister, Elaine McKissick, wife of John, Dillsburg; step grandchildren, Jessica (Hafetz) Hammel, wife of Jed, Haverford; Joshua Hafetz, husband of Dayna (Nadler) Villanova; step great grandchildren, Charlie, Brody, Chelsea and Chase. Six nieces; Linda, Barbara, Kathy, Heather, Tania and Meghan. She was predeceased by her husband Bronek Andrews, sister Gayle, brother David, and nephew Troy.
The family thanks the hard-working staff at the Reading Hospital Tower Health who took such great care of her during this difficult time.
Visitation will be held on Monday, April 18, 2022 at the Henninger Funeral Home, 229 North Fifth St, Reading, Pa at 11:00 am. The service is at 12:00 pm followed by entombment in the family mausoleum at Charles Evans Cemetery. A luncheon will be held immediately following the entombment.
