Obituary for Florence E. Rowlands

Florence “Peggy” (Eiche) Rowlands, 94, of West Lawn, PA, passed away on Sunday, May 8, 2022.
Peggy was born to the late Raymond and Marie (Cooper) Eiche in Frackville, PA. She graduated from Frackville High School and worked for Bell Telephone and later Berks White Autocar. In 1988, she began working for her son Thomas at Rowlands’ Automotive in West Reading, PA, retiring at the age of 90.
An avid antique car fan, Peggy enjoyed working with her family to restore the family’s collection of American Austins and Bantams which were built in Butler, PA, in the 1930s and 40s. As a lifetime member of the American Austin Bantam Club, she looked forward to traveling to various parts of the United States to see and socialize with her extended “Austin/Bantam family” at the annual summer meet. She was also active in the Antique Automobile Club of America – Pottstown Region and served as the newsletter editor for several years. Peggy was a member of the Eastern Star and Advent Lutheran Church, West Lawn.
In her free time, Peggy enjoyed knitting and crocheting. Her friends and family were especially fond of the intricate doilies she would create. A proud Philadelphia Phillies and Eagles fan, Peggy would watch each game to cheer on her team. She also enjoyed baking and would always have a homemade cake ready for anyone who stopped in to visit.
Peggy was predeceased by her husband, Edgar A. Rowlands, in January 1988 and by each of her seven siblings and their spouses. She is survived by her sons William of West Lawn, Thomas and his wife Wendy of West Lawn, Alan and his wife Jerri of Sinking Spring, and her daughter Lacie wife of Gangi Cucciuffo of West Lawn. She has fourteen grandchildren: Lisa, Jim, Jason, Justin, Tim, and Matthew Rowlands; DJ McCormick; Ronnie Helbert; Gary, Lucas, Aaron, Laurissa, and Brock Witmoyer; and Bella Cucciuffo. There are eight great-grandchildren.
A viewing will be held on Thursday, May 12, from 6:00-8:00 P.M. and on Friday, May 13, from 10:00-11:00 A.M. at the Henninger Funeral Home in Reading.
