Betty Lou Firestone, 75, of Reading passed away Sunday morning March 5, 2017 in the Reading Hospital.
Betty was predeceased by her companion of 30 years, Thomas Schadler Jr. in November 2015.Betty was born in Reading, PA. She was one of five children born to the late Charles M. and Louise (Rossi) Auton.
She worked as a packer at Palmer Candy and received awards for her years of service. Betty was a member of “The Dips” Beneficial Club. She enjoyed playing bingo, playing the lottery, putting puzzles together and going out to eat, especially for her giant lobster tail at Seven Stars Inn. She loved red roses and watching John Wayne movies but recently became obsessed with watching Blue Bloods and got a little crush on Tom Selleck. Betty loved her home with her sunroom where she would be able to sit on her recliner and watch the birds and squirrels outside. She loved listening to Daniel O’Donnel and going to get her favorite drink at Starbuck’s, a Caramel Frappuccino. Betty was very generous. She loved to treat others to dinner or buy a cup of coffee, candy or pizza for everyone, especially if she won some money. But most of all Betty loved her puppies, Holly and Joy. She loved when they climbed up on her recliner and sat on her shoulders and loved watching them play and run off with her shoes and socks. She even learned to use her phone to take videos and pictures of them. They were a Christmas gift meant to bring some joy into her life and even if it was for only a short time they sure did bring her joy and happiness!
Betty had resided at The Golden Living Center in Exeter for a year and a half where her goal was to get strong enough so she could climb into her son in laws big truck, unfortunately she didn’t make that goal. She just didn’t have the strength to try anymore. Betty has left this Earth free of pain, troubles, burdens, confusion and is finally going to be with the ones she loved and missed terribly. We have some peace knowing she is no longer suffering but we will miss her.
She is survived by her son, Michael husband of Linda Firestone; daughter, Christine “Tina” wife of Timothy Reber and one grandson, Jason Firestone. Also, two siblings, brother, William Auton and wife Jerry and a sister, Martha, widow of William Teichman.
The family would like to extend many thanks for those nurses, aids, and the girls in therapy at Golden Living Center for taking care of her and treating her like she was family. The kindness you have shown her meant so much, she loved you all, her “Favorites”. If Betty teased you and joked with you that meant she really loved you. Thank you for making a difference in her life and the lives of the elderly and sick that some just cast aside. God Bless You! Mom, “I will be seeing you”.
